Fidge Wars

Category: Physical activity,
Group size: 1 group, More than 1 group,
Duration: 30+ min.,

The idea for this activity came from a project by the summer 2015 camp counselors at La Vérendrye day camp.

Description and organisation

Players are divided into 2 teams. They pass each other a ball to get across the field and get the ball into the opposing team’s “goal,” which is a trash can. Players cannot move while holding the ball. They cannot go into the goal area marked with cones around the goals.

When a team scores a goal, the opposing team’s fridge is open for 30 seconds. The scoring team sends 2 raiders (secretly appointed before the start of the match) to try to take a food card from the fridge and put it in their team’s goal. Each raider can only take 1 card at a time. The team whose fridge was raided can stop the raiders by tagging them with both hands. If a raider is tagged, they must put back the card they stole and run back to their own team’s fridge before they can try to steal another card. When the 30 seconds are up, the fridge is closed, and the team that was being raided gets the ball. The first team to get a card from each food group wins.

  • If the raiders are having too much difficulty getting the food cards, make more raiders.
  • Instead of needing a food from each food group to win, players could have to say how many servings of a certain food group (named by a counselor) they should have daily. They could also have to create a balanced meal.
